Lighting Your Home in September

Lighting Your Home in September

27 Sep 2023

As September rolls around, the days become shorter, and the crisp autumn breeze carries with it the promise of cozy evenings indoors. One of the most transformative elements in setting the mood for your home is lighting. With the transition from summer to autumn it's the perfect time to reconsider your home's lighting scheme.

Whether you're aiming for a warm and inviting ambiance or a touch of sophistication, here's a guide to lighting your home in September from the Light Company.

Harnessing Natural Light

September offers a unique blend of warm sunlight and cooler temperatures, making it an ideal time to maximise your use of natural light. Consider rearranging your furniture to take advantage of the changing angle of the sun. Position seating areas near windows to bask in the soft, diffused light that filters through the changing leaves. You can also update your window treatments to allow more sunlight in during the day while maintaining your privacy.

Welcoming Foyer

As you step into the home, the foyer sets the tone for the entire space. In September, embrace the season by adorning your entryway with warm, autumn-themed lighting. Consider placing a table lamp with a soft, amber-toned bulb on a console table. Pair this with a vase of seasonal flowers or a bowl of colourful beads to create a welcoming ambiance that hints at the changing season.

Layered Lighting

Creating depth and dimension in your home's lighting is essential for a cozy and well-balanced atmosphere. Layered lighting involves using a combination of ambient, task, and accent lighting to cater to various activities and moods.

As September evenings invite more indoor gatherings, layer your lighting by incorporating floor lamps, table lamps, and pendant lights. This interplay of light sources can make your space feel more dynamic and inviting.

Dimmer Switches

Installing dimmer switches is an ingenious way to tailor the lighting in your home to the changing September ambiance. Dimming the lights during evenings creates a softer, more relaxed atmosphere, ideal for winding down after a busy day. Adjusting the brightness of your lighting can also contribute to energy efficiency, allowing you to save on electricity while setting the perfect mood.

Outdoor Illumination

Don't forget about your outdoor spaces during September. As the evenings become crisper, extend the coziness to your patio or garden. Hang string lights or install wall lights along pathways to guide the way and create a magical atmosphere for late-night strolls or outdoor gatherings. Embrace the opportunity to continue enjoying your outdoor spaces as the seasons change.

The Light Company

September brings with it the promise of change and renewal, and your home's lighting can be a reflection of that transition. By harnessing natural light, incorporating layered lighting, and embracing elements like dimmer switches, you can create a warm and inviting atmosphere that perfectly complements the changing season.
