The Light Company Introduces Three New Homeware Brands

29 Jun 2023

At the Light Company we are constantly looking to introduce new ranges of lighting and homeware products to offer the widest possible choices to our customers. So, we are pleased to announce the introduction of soft furnishings from three new homeware brands to our existing ranges. These include:

Clarissa Hulse

Clarissa Hulse designs beautiful and luxurious homeware from a studio in North London, with an emphasis on botanical imagery and bold colour. Clarissa’s designs are based on nature photography, which can range from a tropical rainforest to Highbury Fields in London. Clarissa herself is passionate about the idea that nothing should go to waste and that some of the best designs can actually come from ‘waste’ products.

For example, her backing cloth designs are a series of serendipitous patterns that appear organically whilst printing other products, and over the years have become a popular feature. The use of these random, spontaneous designs has also inspired successful prints that emerged on the backing cloth have development into some of Clarissa Hulse’s most popular ranges.

The company also have a mission to use every last scrap of fabric that they have worked on. Anything left over is bagged up and sold for crafting projects, and if there is anything left over at that stage, they give it to schools.

Sara Miller London

Sara Miller London is a luxurious lifestyle brand celebrating a love of playful prints, vibrant patterns and exquisite use of colour. From the intricate decorative craftsmanship in the palaces of Jaipur to the sensational Sakura cherry blossom in Japan, the Sara Miller brand is passionate about exploring the world and bringing this inspiration back to the London studio, where they are translated to produce truly beautiful, sophisticated and elegant designs.

Sara Miller London is recognised for the use of rich textures and vivid colours, all embellished with delicate gold details which have become synonymous with the brand of decadent and unique collections.

Timorous Beasties

Timorous Beasties is a Scottish studio whose work embodies a unique diversity of pattern, ranging from design that echoes a golden age of copperplate engraving to examples of a distinctly edgy nature, an elegant transgression, a display of chic irreverence. The studio fully engages a design discourse with textile's history by lending an aesthetic evolution to time-honoured motifs.

The art critic John Ruskin related a universal connection between nature, art and society. Timorous Beasties share a similar world view, where plants, animals and society are visually inextricable. They are devoted to how that impacts as pattern design in our daily experience of furnished spaces, from one-bedroom flats to country villas, to the halls of civic and government buildings, departure lounge backdrops, boutique enclaves, restaurants, and hotels.

Using Soft Furnishings to Spruce up your Home

Judy Davison Managing Director of the Light Company explains how a small investment in soft furnishings can have a significant impact when it comes to sprucing up your home by adding comfort, style, and a touch of personality.

Says Judy, “Decorative pillows and cushions are versatile and can instantly update the look of your furniture. Choose a mix of sizes, shapes, and textures to add visual interest and to provide extra comfort and you can play with colours and patterns to create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.

“Alternatively, if you drape a cozy throw or blanket over sofas, armchairs, or beds it will add warmth and texture. Choose soft materials like knits, faux fur, or woven fabrics in colours that complement your existing décor, making your space look inviting.

“Curtains, drapes, and blinds are essential soft furnishings that can transform the look of your windows. Choose curtains in luxurious fabrics or with interesting patterns to make a statement to add drama, privacy, and control the amount of natural light entering the room.

“If your furniture is looking worn or outdated, consider reupholstering or using slipcovers to give them a fresh new look. Select fabrics that suit your style and the room's colour scheme, and enjoy the instant transformation of your seating.

“Finally, upgrade your bedding with high-quality sheets, duvet covers, and pillowcases. Choose fabrics that feel luxurious against the skin and colours that create a calming or inviting ambiance in your bedroom. Layering different textures and patterns can also add depth and visual interest.”
