Why Yellow and Lemon Are the Favourite Lighting Colours This Summer
Looking to brighten up your home or garden this summer? You're not alone. Yellow and lemon-toned lighting is making a huge comeback as this season’s top trend, and it’s not hard to see why.
These sunny hues are uplifting, stylish, and full of energy—perfect for long summer evenings and fresh interior vibes. Whether you're giving your space a seasonal refresh or planning a garden glow-up, yellow is the colour to watch.
Here’s why yellow and lemon lighting is everywhere this summer—and how you can make it work in your space.
1. Yellow = Instant Sunshine (Even When It’s Cloudy)
Yellow is the colour of sunshine, optimism, and warmth. In lighting, it creates a soft, golden glow that makes any space feel more inviting.
Lemon tones offer a fresher, slightly cooler twist on traditional warm lighting, adding a clean and contemporary vibe to kitchens, hallways, or outdoor patios.
Try it in:
· Living rooms to add warmth and cosiness
· Dining areas for a soft, flattering ambiance
· Outdoor spaces to mimic golden hour glow
2. It Pairs Beautifully with Natural Materials
Yellow and lemon lighting tones work effortlessly with natural textures like wood, rattan, stone, and linen. That makes them a perfect match for biophilic design, rustic décor, or minimalist Scandi-style spaces.
Think of yellow pendants over a wooden dining table, or lemon-tinged fairy lights strung across a garden pergola—effortlessly chic and summery.
3. Mood-Boosting Benefits
Studies have shown that yellow tones can uplift your mood and even boost creativity. It's a natural choice for spaces where you want to feel energised, cheerful, and inspired—making it ideal for home offices or hobby rooms.
Bonus: it also works well in kids’ rooms, offering a playful and positive feel without being overpowering.
4. It's Versatile—From Bold Statements to Subtle Glow
Whether you want to go all-in with bold yellow lamp shades or simply warm up your space with lemon-toned bulbs, there’s a way to bring this trend in without overwhelming your design.
Ideas to try:
· Swapping out white bulbs for soft amber or lemon-toned options
· Choosing a yellow floor lamp or statement pendant
· Mixing yellow with whites, greys, or greens for a modern palette
5. It Complements Summer Decor Trends
From Mediterranean-inspired interiors to tropical-themed gardens, yellow lighting fits beautifully with this season’s biggest décor trends.
Pair it with:
· Terracotta pots and olive greens for an Italian summer vibe
· Blues and whites for a beach house aesthetic
· Floral prints and pastels for cottagecore charm
